Cybercriminals Stole GBP 11 Million From Law Clients in 2017

The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has issued a report about cybersecurity aimed particularly at law firms and companies, noting that 11 million pounds of client money was stolen during 2017 due to cyber crime and that 60 percent of law firms reported an information security incident last year, an increase of almost 20 percent from the year before.

The NCSC and industry partners have launched the 'Legal Sector' group on the free Cyber Information Sharing Platform (CiSP). CiSP is a joint industry and government initiative set up to exchange cyber threat information in real time, in a secure, confidential and dynamic environment. The report also offers a number of recommendations on how to avoid cyber security incidents.

If you aren't familiar with the NCSC, it was created as part of the five year National Cyber Security Strategy (NCSS) in 2016, supported by GBP 1.9 billion of transformational investment. The organization provides a single, central body for cyber security at a national level and is the UK's technical authority on cyber. It manages national cyber security incidents, carries out real-time threat analysis and provides tailored sector advice.

Sounds like our friends across the pond are facing the same challenges and reacting in a very similar fashion.
