Sensei Officers Featured on Probate Nation
February 28, 2017
Recently, Sensei’s Sharon Nelson and John Simek were interviewed by Richard John Ruddy, Jr. of The Ruddy Law Firm. Mr. Ruddy is on the editorial board of The Probate Nation, whose mission “is to serve the needs of the many lay people who take on the enormous responsibility of probating the estate of a loved one who has passed.” Their video segment, “Dealing with Digital Assets” highlights the challenges executors can face when dealing with a person’s digital accounts after they have passed.
About the video segment:
Sharon D. Nelson and John Simek from Sensei Enterprises, Inc., digital forensics, information security and information technology firm in Fairfax provide a thought provoking discussion, in lay person language, on often overlooked assets in an estate, the digital assets. Topics covered include:
- what is a digital asset, which can include everything from online bank and brokerage statements, to bill pay accounts, to Facebook, email accounts, pictures, and more
- ownership, access and transfer of digital assets, which are handled very differently by each of the providers
- the fact that lawmakers are only beginning to get their hands around these assets and how to deal with them when someone dies
- planning that can be done in advance to make it easier for your digital assets to be transferred to your loved ones
- tools available to assess the adequacy of your digital assets planning efforts
