VIRGINIA LIVING MAGAZINE QUOTES SHARON NELSON

November 12, 2013

In an article entitled “Honor & Compassion” written by Sandra Shelley, Virginia Living pays homage to “Virginia’s state bar associations, the standard bearers for professionalism in the practice of law…” This year marks the 125th anniversary of the formation of Virginia State Bar Association now known as the Virginia Bar Association (VBA). Membership in the VBA was voluntary and, therefore, it was difficult to enforce disciplinary measures. Legislators were urged to form a membership-mandatory association to take care of such matters. In 1938, 75 years ago, the General Assembly established the Virginia State Bar (VSB), an administrative agency of the Virginia Supreme Court charged with regulating Virginia’s legal profession. Sharon Nelson, President of the Virginia State Bar and President of Sensei Enterprises Inc., said “I think that one of the things we’re proudest of is our disciplinary system and how seriously we take it.” This is an interesting and well written article — certainly worth the read!
