WINDOWS XP SP3 WILL NO LONGER HAVE MICROSOFT SUPPORT AFTER APRIL 8, 2014

February 3, 2014

Maybe you have heard or maybe you have not been paying attention BUT, after April 8th, 2014 support will no longer be available for Windows XP SP3.  This is leaving the door open to your computer security if you are using this system.  Many critics are saying that the non-support is a ploy by Microsoft to increase sales for their newer operating systems while others are claiming that this is an opportunity for hackers to release Malware after this date.  There probably will not be a massive attack on April 9th, but you should take precautions to make sure that the “bad guys” do not have access to your data.

Airports are using the XP system for displays of flights that occur daily and banks use Windows XP for their ATM networks, but as a lawyer you need to be protecting the confidential information of your clients.  Some bar organizations may determine that you are subject to disciplinary action for failure to reasonably protect client data if you continue to use Windows XP after April 8th date.  Many law firms use their computer to process credit card payments and if that computer is running Windows XP there is a possibilty that the Malware could intercept the credit card information and cause data breaches.  This could lead to fines and a public relations disaster for your firm, so you need to be prepared.

Sensei Enterprises, Inc. can provide Information Technology and Information Security services so call us anytime at (703) 359-0700, but before April 8th if you are an Windows XP user for help and advice.
