A Malformed iMessage Can Pwn Your iOS Device

July 31, 2019

Apple users beware. Google security researchers have found a vulnerability in iOS that allows remote attackers access to iPhones and iPads by sending a malicious crafted iMessage to the victim. The user has no knowledge that their device has been compromised. In other words, no physical access is required. Supposedly, Apple has fixed the vulnerability with the latest iOS version 12.4. However, one of the Google security researchers says not so fast. The iOS 12.4 update fixed six flaws but doesn't fully address the iMessage bug. Check your device to make sure it is at least running 12.4 or force a manual update. Let's hope the bad guys haven't uncovered the vulnerability ahead of Apple fixing it for good.
