Apple Hopes to Suck More Money from iPad Users

March 19, 2020

Benjamin Franklin gets credit for his famous quote stating that there are only two things certain in life – death and taxes. If Franklin were alive today, he would probably add a third – Apple charges an obscene amount of money for its products. The latest example is Apple's recently announced iPad Pro keyboard with trackpad. The Verge describes Apple's "Magic Keyboard" as having "…a hinge that lets you adjust the viewing angle, a trackpad, and a USB-C port." The 11-inch model will cost $299 versus $179 for the previous Smart Keyboard Folio. If you want the 12.9-inch model, it will set you back $349 versus the $199 Smart Keyboard Folio model. To put things in perspective, the "Magic Keyboard" is going to cost you around 35% of what the iPad Pro costs. Unbelievable.

If you insist on buying an iPad Pro and insist on getting a keyboard, don't hand your money over to Apple. Take a look at the keyboard from Logitech that is half the cost. Apple's "Magic Keyboard" has a USB-C port whereas the Logitech offering does not. Even so, there is no way a USB-C port is worth a $150 premium.
