Apple Yanks Back Latest Rapid Security Update

Updates are a good thing. Users should apply fixes as soon as possible following release. Apple released the second ever Rapid Security Response to address zero-day flaws that are actively being exploited in the wild. The update was released for the following operating systems:

  • iOS 16.5.1 and iPadOS 16.5.1
  • macOS Ventura 13.4.1
  • macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey

According to a MacRumors post, Apple has pulled the plug on the updates, apparently due to some websites breaking after installation of the fixes. “According to reports on the MacRumors forums, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Zoom, and other websites started giving a warning about not being supported on the Safari browser following the Rapid Security Response updates.” It is expected that Apple will re-release the update after addressing the reported problems. For those that already have installed the Rapid Release Update, downgrading the OS can be accomplished by navigating to Settings -> General -> About and tapping on the iOS version to remove the security update.
