Certified Ethical Hacker Company Not So Ethical
July 20, 2022
EC-Council runs the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) program, which is one of the more popular and “sexy” cybersecurity certifications on the market. You would think that acting ethically as a “white hat hacker” would be a core requirement. Security analyst, Graham Cluley, tells his experience with EC-Council and its unethical practice of promoting the ethical hacking program via comment spam on his website. Graham writes, “Yes, someone has gone to the effort of finding a blog post where I wrote about how I was speaking at an event in Helsinki, and used that as an excuse to promote one of EC-Council’s own services: the so-called EC-Council University.”
In the past, EC-Council has been in the spotlight for some shady practices that Graham references. Cybersecurity is a white hot field right now with a huge selection of certifications to exhibit your cyber knowledge. I would suggest investigating the history and reputation of any certification (and those that possess it) before you pluck down your hard earned money. Apparently, Graham has similar advice.
