Expiration of Free Google Meet Meetings Extended
March 31, 2021
To assist employees working from home (and try to get some market share too), Google lifted the free unlimited Google Meet time limit of 30 minutes through the end of March. According to an Android Police post, Google has extended the free unlimited period through the end of June 2021.
I have never been a Google Meet fan. I’ve never had a good experience and typically have difficulty connecting. Once connected, the quality isn’t that great. One area that was a big plus is the live transcription for closed captioning. It’s a great feature for those hearing impaired. That benefit is no longer a reason to use Google Meet. Webex, Teams and Zoom now have live transcription too. Google better up its game if it expects people to pay for the service once the free period expires.
