Google Chrome Faster than Safari
March 8, 2022
Google Chrome is getting closer to the century mark. The latest Chrome update (version 99) is reported to be faster than Safari on macOS. In addition, it’s faster on Android by 15%. One of the speed improvements is better memory utilization. As the Review Geek post states, “The browser now preloads much of its process code while it starts up, and it saves a ton of memory by de-prioritizing tabs and webpages that you aren’t actively using.”
The real fun is going to be when the next update of Chrome drops. The Firefox and Chrome browsers are almost at version 100. When the version gets to three digits, some websites may have problems processing something greater than the two digit User Agent string according to a Malwarebytes post. The issue sounds similar to the Y2K problem where software was only accounting for two digit years. Perhaps we’re heading for déjà vu all over again.
