Google Meet is Free Until March 2021

September 30, 2020

According to a PCWorld post, Google has extended "the period during which customers could make unlimited calls using Google Meet until March 31, 2021, ending speculation that it would end the free period on September 30." Google Meet is available to anyone with a Gmail account, not just those with a paid G Suite account.

While the service will be free until next year, it appears as if one feature will be removed. It doesn't look like you will be able to record and archive a Google Meet calls to Google Drive anymore. Google Meet may be fine for the casual video conference call with friends, but our experience hasn't been very good. My recommendation is to look at Zoom first. Even with the limitations of the free Zoom version, the stability, performance and features far exceed any Meet experience I have ever had.
