Monster External Drive Capacity from Western Digital
February 16, 2023
Bigger is not necessarily better. The Verge reports that Western Digital announced new capacity for its My Book external drives. You can now get a 22TB and 44TB versions of external storage. That’s a lot of room for pictures, documents, videos, or any other kind of electronic information. The larger capacity doesn’t come cheap. The $22TB version will set you back $600 and the 44TB model is a whopping $1500. At least you can securely store your data on the device. “The drives support 256-bit AES hardware encryption, with Western Digital’s software for password protection and managing data backups.”
I would suggest that you look at how much capacity you really need. One significant concern would be the potential loss of significant data should something go wrong. There’s a lot of data stored in one place on one device. For now, I’ll stay with less storage across multiple pieces of hardware to minimize my risk and be more pocketbook friendly.
