New ChatGPT Privacy Setting
April 26, 2023
It’s no secret that ChatGPT is one of the hottest technologies we’ve seen in decades. That is, unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock. The usage of ChatGPT has raised many issues concerning transparency, accuracy and privacy. One concern is any controls that may be in place to restrict access to the information that is submitted to ChatGPT. Caution should be exercised with entering any data into ChatGPT, especially any confidential personal or client information.
As reported in The Verge, you now have the ability to disable saving of your chat history. Up to this point, ChatGPT saved your chat history to help train the AI system. Disabling chat history doesn’t mean that a record won’t still exist. All the previous conversations are still available to OpenAI (makers of ChatGPT) for training. Future conversations are held for 30 days to be reviewed for abuse. The data will be deleted after 30 days. To disable chat history, click on the three dots next to your email address in the lower left corner at the bottom of the screen. Select Settings and then Show under Data Controls. Toggle the Chat History & Training slider. From the same settings screen, you also have the choice to export your data.
