Opt Out of Microsoft MyAnalytics

January 28, 2020

In the beginning of January, I got an email from Microsoft stating that our Office 365 subscription now includes MyAnalytics. I filed the note and didn't give it much thought. That is until I received the first summary email for MyAnalytics today. The message comes with the welcoming words "Each week, this email will give you an in-depth look at one of your work patterns." Apparently, Microsoft is collecting data about my email usage. The report summarizes your top collaborators and shows the total time, read rate and response time for each. There are also suggestions on which contacts to mark as important. You can learn more about MyAnalytics here. Sorry, but it sure looks like Microsoft is using the "productivity improvement" excuse to monitor my email usage. No thanks.

The real question is how the hell do you opt out of MyAnalytics? First, open your dashboard and select Config Settings menu choice in the lower left. Set the MyAnalytics control (top one in settings panel) to off and save the setting. It may take a week or so for the collection to stop. You can always turn the service back on from the MyAnalytics dashboard later on if you want. Some saying about freezing and hell comes to mind.
