Participate in a Zoom Call as an Animal Avatar
March 24, 2022
Let’s face it. Zoom is the 800 pound gorilla of the video conference world. Video display of participants seems to be high on the road map for enhancements. Zoom was one of the first to offer virtual backgrounds for participants. Video filters and studio effects are available as well. As if there weren’t enough options for your video stream, CNET reports that you can now show up to a meeting as an animated animal avatar. You must be running at least version 5.10.0 of the app to access the avatars.
The avatars are selected in the Background & Effects section of the app settings. There are hoodie and shirt versions of several animals. The current animal choices are Cat, Brown Cow, Dog, Fox, Bunny, Polar Bear, Panda Bear, Grizzly Bear, Racoon, Wolf and Cow. I’m not sure using avatars is a good idea for a business meeting, but I can see where using an avatar could help children feel more comfortable to actively participate in a virtual classroom setting.
