Some Ring Products to Get End-To-End Encryption

End-to-end (E2E) encryption protects data from being accessed by unauthorized users. In other words, data is encrypted with a user-controlled key from the source all the way through to the destination. Engadget reported that Ring has announced that E2E will be rolling out to some (but not all) of its products. Ring products that are battery or solar powered will not get end-to-end encryption, while wired devices will. The actual products to get E2E will include “…the Doorbell Pro and Elite, as well as the Floodlight, Spotlight and both wired versions of the Stick Up Cam.”

Ring posted a video describing E2E and how to enable it on supported devices. Basically, you open the Ring app and go to the Control Center. From there, select the choice for Video Encryption and then Advanced Settings -> End-to-End Encryption. You will have an option to turn on E2E when Ring starts rolling it out. Until then, the setting will state that End-to-End Encryption is Coming Soon and that you will receive an email when it is available.
