Word to Get Text Prediction in March

February 23, 2021

Microsoft is scheduled to release a text prediction feature for Word next month according to a post at The Verge. Apparently, the text prediction will work similar to Google Docs’ Smart Compose. Machine learning will be used to predict the words the author intends to type, thereby speeding up document creation. At The Verge stated, “Word will highlight grayed-out predictions when users are writing a document, and the suggestions can be accepted using the Tab key or rejected by hitting Escape. Text predictions can also be completely disabled by Word users.”

The feature release sounds eerily similar to auto correct. While some people may think that text predictions is a cool thing, I am not convinced. I’ll try to keep an open mind and see how it works when it hits my computer. I can see it taking more time to compose as your brain is working to decide whether to accept or reject the suggestions as opposed to flying along putting your thoughts on paper. Time will tell.
