Zoom Copies Feature from Competitors

April 27, 2021

It is amazing how competition among vendors allows everyone to improve their products. Video conferencing applications are a case in point. Google Meet came out with live transcription and now others have followed. Zoom had the gallery view and now others have it too. Virtual backgrounds were all the rage and now you have all kinds of choices with Teams, Webex, Google Meet, etc.

Speaking of virtual backgrounds, Zoom is about to copy a special virtual background implementation from its competitors. Engadget reported that Zoom’s Immersive View will put up to 25 participants into a single virtual background. The intention is to give you a feeling of being in a boardroom or classroom with everyone assembled together. Zoom will use artificial intelligence to assemble the participants into a single virtual space. It is another attempt to reduce “Zoom fatigue.”
