Preparing Your Smart Home for Holiday Travel

November 25, 2019

I will assume that readers know of my skepticism regarding IoT devices and smart homes. Convenient they are, secure they are (often) not.

Nonetheless, it blew me away that we live in a time where CNET publishes a post on how to prepare your smart home for holiday travel.

The advice discusses thermostats, lights and shades, cameras, doorbells and security systems, environment detectors, and robot vacuums and other small appliances. So, if you have a smart home, you may want to read the post.

Even the article concludes "Still, smart homes aren't perfect, and it's a good idea to have one or two very trusted (and tech-savvy) humans keeping an eye on things."

I know many of you are leaving for the Thanksgiving holiday, so this seemed like an apt time to call this post to your attention. But for heaven's sake, take to heart the advice about the humans!
