Legacy Legal Technology: When is it Time to Move On?

We have this debate with clients all the time. They cling to old technology like it's a life raft. That's how it feels to them because they are familiar with it – and scared of learning anything else. And then there's the matter of coming up with the money to move to modern technology.

Often, it is cybersecurity concerns that force their hands. When software goes out of support, you are not compliant with the ethical rules if you continue to use software which is not receiving security updates. Not only are lawyers at risk of ethical violations, they put their clients' data in peril – and that can have devastating consequences if there's a data breach.
