Recording of Trump’s Call to Georgia Investigator Found in Device’s Trash Folder

An audio file of a phone call between former President Trump and a lead investigator in the Georgia signature audit has been released. The recording was located by officials in the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office and was determined to have been retrieved from the investigator’s trash folder.

According to a WSB-TV article, the call took place on Dec. 23, and was focused around Trump’s allegations of voting misconduct. When questioned on the nature of the call, the investigator said they did not perceive any pressure from the president during the conversation and stated they ultimately found no evidence to change the outcome of the election in Georgia.

The recording may be included in a potential lawsuit against the former president stemming from a call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, where Trump asked Georgia officials to “find” 11,000 votes to flip the state’s election in his favor.

Regardless of the recording’s content or future implications, it’s important to understand the trail that electronic evidence often leads to. Even though the recording was placed in the Trash folder, it was still available to be recovered and produced. Had the recording been deleted from the trash folder, and assuming there were no backups produced, it would likely have been unrecoverable without the use of digital forensic technology.
