Electronic Evidence Connects Suspect to Murder Scene
February 3, 2022
Christopher Leach, of the Lexington Herald Leader, recently reported on an arrest Lexington police made in connection with a murder. The Lexington police announced that they had arrested 24-year-old Deonte Carter in connection to a deadly shooting that happened in early January 2022.
Carter has been charged with murder as well as tampering with evidence and is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center. Emergency responders were called to a scene in early January where they discovered a young man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man, later identified as 26-year-old Kobby Martin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Days later, police arrested Carter for a robbery unrelated to the shooting, where they found him in possession of a stolen vehicle that matched the description of one at the scene of the shooting. “Court records say forensic detectives gained access to the vehicle and found a large amount of blood in the back seat” writes Leach.
Evidence retrieved from a cell phone helped to connect Carter to the crime. Police were able to retrieve text messages and phone calls from the device. Additionally, location data was collected from the device.
