Microsoft Recommends Not Using Office 2019 and Internet Explorer

February 11, 2019

How ironic that Microsoft doesn’t recommend using its own products. According an Ars Technica post, Microsoft’s argument is that the Edge browser is faster and more compliant with today’s web standards. Internet Explorer isn’t going to be updated as technology advances. In addition, Office 2019 is a fixed feature application designed for those that only need a local install. Obviously, Microsoft is pushing its Office 365 subscription-based option. Office 365 contains a number of cloud features that are not available in Office 2019. These would include such things as “…machine learning-driven drawing and handwriting recognition, integration with LinkedIn, a range of live data sources for Excel, and so on.” To highlight the point, Microsoft has released videos with identical twins (one using Office 2019 and one using Office 3655) racing to perform tasks in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Here’s a link to the PowerPoint twins challenge.
