Edge Now Supports Sign-in Without a Password

August 2, 2018

Everybody wants to jump on the truck and support login credentials with something other than just a user ID and password. Biometric access using fingerprints, facial recognition, iris scans, etc. are all the rage. Frankly, I don’t think that biometrics is all that great since you can be compelled to turn over something about you, but not knowledge (e.g password or PIN). Even so, vendors are still pushing forward to make the login process more convenient.

Microsoft Edge will soon support securely signing into websites without having to remember passwords. Engadget reported that Microsoft announced support for the Web Authentication specification in the browser, which will let you log on using Windows Hello hardware (so that’s IR cameras and fingerprint readers), as well as PINs or external FIDO2 security key. Somehow, I don’t think the new feature will be any incentive for people to switch to the Edge browser.
