How to Easily Enable a Better Two-Factor Authentication for Gmail

May 1, 2018

I've written about it before. You should enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for any service that has it available. Google recently rolled out new features for its Gmail service. Google hopes that more people using Google products will use two-factor authentication to protect their accounts, and that users will choose prompt-based authentication over less secure methods, like SMS codes. Instead of entering a code that you received in an e-mail or SMS text, you just need to hit a button to confirm it was you trying to logon to your account from that particular device. Google isn't the only company to roll out a prompt-based approach to 2FA.

According to a post on Naked Security, being able to respond to prompt-based 2FA is easy. You need to navigate to the authentication setting for your Google account. Go to the settings of your Google profile and select "signing in to Google" from under the Sign-in and Security area. Click the "two-step verification" option and hit the "try it now" prompt. Just answer that it is you trying to logon and you're good to go.
