Gmail Getting a Facelift

April 12, 2018

The cat is out of the bag. Google is releasing a new interface for Gmail. Google notified G Suite administrators letting them know that a new design for Gmail is on its way. Google confirmed in a statement to The Verge, "We're working on some major updates to Gmail (they're still in draft phase). We need a bit more time to compose ourselves, so can't share anything yet—archive this for now, and we'll let you know when it's time to hit send." According to CNET, users will be able to access Google Calendar directly from Gmail. There may even be offline e-mail storage. Another feature is the ability to "snooze" e-mail messages so that they appear in the Inbox at a later time. This is the first major update in several years.

Even though there are no details for the new design, Tech Crunch has an update by someone seeing a Google employee playing with the new design on public transportation. "It was a hybrid of Gmail and Inbox. The left-side column was more like inbox.google.com and the right side was an enlarged version of Gmail. The color in the background had a blue-ish gradient. Every folder on the left had an icon just like Inbox and dividers to split the categories." There's even a sketch of what it looks like in the post.
