Reality Check – Almost 93% of Cloud Applications Are Not Enterprise-Ready

February 26, 2018

Netskope, a cloud security company, released some startling data concerning cloud applications. Netskope analyzed anonymized data taken from its Netskope Active Platform. They found that the average business uses 1,181 cloud services. The range was from a few hundred for small companies all the way up to more than 3,000 for large enterprises. The frightening statistic is that they discovered 92.7% of the cloud applications are not enterprise-ready. They took the parameters from the Cloud Security Alliance's Cloud Controls Matrix to rank services as low, medium, high or excellent. More than forty parameters for each cloud service, including access control, auditing, privacy, business continuity and data security were rated.

DarkReading has posted more details about the study. As they stated, "Analysts compiled a list of top cloud services, which mostly consist of storage and collaboration tools and include popular offerings like Outlook, Office 365, Gmail, Facebook, Skype, Google Drive, SharePoint, Microsoft Power BI, iCloud, Twitter, LinkedIn, Box, and Salesforce." While these apps are common in enterprises, they may be connected to dangerous ones or are not properly configured to prevent data leakage.
