Unencrypted USB Devices Used by 80% of Employees

December 18, 2017

Human beings are the worst enemy when it comes to security protection. Unfortunately, that trend continues. The Apricorn Data Protection Survey reported that 80% of employees use unencrypted USB devices. As if that weren't bad enough, 87% don't tell their employers when they lose their USB devices. I can't image how much confidential corporate data is floating around out there just waiting to be publicly disclosed. That thought has got to be keeping company security folks awake at night.

I believe the starting point is to have a policy concerning the usage of USB devices. Before you implement technology controls, it is important that employees know how to protect company data and what security measures to take when using portable devices. After a policy is established, technology can be implemented to enforce those policies.
