Create Windows 10 Media for Reinstallation

June 12, 2017

You should always have a copy of your operating system on some type of media to facilitate reinstallation. You never know when a drive may die or some malware infection requires you to start over with a fresh install. Obviously, you can't do a reinstallation without the operating system code on some type of media. Assuming you have a valid Windows 10 license, Microsoft has an easy tool for you to create reinstallation media on an optical disc or USB flash drive.

You start the process by going to Microsoft's download site at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. Click the 'Download tool now' button. Once the tool has downloaded, just execute the Media Creation Tool. Follow the prompts and you will eventually have a choice to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD or ISO file) for another PC. The USB flash drive has to be at least 5GB in size and you may need to use Dual Layer (DL) DVD media if you get a message that the disc image is too big. Pretty simple.
