iPhones Fail More Often than Android Phones

September 12, 2016

Say it isn't so. If the recent Apple announcement to remove the headphone jack isn't enough to make you buy an Android phone, a recent study should. Blancco Technology Group used its mobile diagnostics tools to collect performance data from millions of mobile phones in the second quarter of 2016. The data was then used to determine how often smartphones fail, how and why they fail, and which third-party apps crash most frequently on each of the two major mobile platforms.

The results show that 58% of iOS devices fail and 42% pass. In contrast only 35% of Android phones failed. BGR has a summary of the results. If you look at the iPhone model failure rate, you'll see that the iPhone 6 accounts for 29% of the failures. The interesting part is that the iPhone 6 models have a higher failure rate than the iPhone 5S. That doesn't give you a lot of confidence to upgrade to an iPhone 7 unless the high failure rate is due to the headphone jack.
