Safer Gmail Coming Soon

August 16, 2016

According to Naked Security, you will soon be seeing more warnings about potentially dangerous phishing, spoofed and faked Gmail messages. Google is rolling out several methods to help validate inbound Gmail messages. One is Sender Policy Framework (SPF), which attempts to protect against sender address forgery (what's commonly called spoofing) by allowing a domain's owner to publish the IP addresses of the mail servers it uses. Another technology is DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), which allows a sending organization to include a digital signature of the message that a recipient can validate. If the message is questionable, the user will see a question mark tag. Obviously, not all messages will be validated via SPF or DKIM, but at least the question mark will make you stop and think.
