UFS to Supersede MicroSD Card

July 11, 2016

What storage media should we be seeing in the future? Samsung has recently announced the Universal Flash Storage (UFS), which is the successor to the microSD. The UFS capacities range from 32GB to 256GB. The super-fast read and write times are aimed at high resolution capture devices like DSLRs and VR cameras. According to Samsung, the read times are five times faster than a microSD card. A 5GB movie can be read in 10 seconds versus 50 seconds for a microSD. The next challenge is to find devices that can actually read the new UFS format.
