Passwords Potentially Compromised at Carbonite

June 22, 2016

We really like Carbonite as a cloud backup solution, especially for solo and small firm businesses. A recent compromise at GoToMyPC caused it to reset all user passwords. Now, Carbonite is advising users to change their account passwords. The warning comes from an abundance of caution and not necessarily an unauthorized access of Carbonite login credentials. Why the warning? Carbonite is seeing a significant increase in unauthorized access attempts. This can mean that passwords may have been compromised from another provider. It's also a lesson to use a unique password for each service and not reuse passwords for multiple sites. As a result, the company says that it will be rolling out additional security measures to protect accounts, including two-factor authentication (2FA).
