Apple Wins Prize for Most Vulnerabilities in 2015

January 13, 2016

VentureBeat reported on the top 50 software products in order of distinct vulnerabilities. The "winner" was Apple for Mac OS X and iOS. Third was Adobe Flash. To be fair, it's all in how you group the data. The results come from CVE Details, which organizes data provided by the National Vulnerability Database. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) system keeps track of publicly known information-security vulnerabilities and exposures.

The Apple operating systems are all grouped together, whereas Windows is broken out by version. SC Magazine approached the data in a different fashion and reported some additional insights. No matter how you analyze the data, Android had lower reported vulnerabilities compared to iOS even when you lump all the versions together.
