Oracle has to Clean Up Insecure Software on Nearly a Billion PCs
December 22, 2015
You must be living under a rock if you didn’t know that Oracle’s Java software is one of the most insecure pieces of software ever developed. Oracle “inherited” the Java headache when they acquired Sun Microsystems in 2010 and has been releasing updates ever since. Even though updates were issued as insecurities were discovered, the older vulnerable versions remained on the computer and were not uninstalled. Well, the FTC is finally forcing Oracle to tell users if they have outdated versions of Java on their computers and provide a way to uninstall it. I wouldn’t wait for Oracle to tell me that there is an insecure version of Java on my computer. The better solution is to visit java.com/uninstall now and uninstall it yourself.
