Use a Password Instead of a Fingerprint – It’s Safer

November 24, 2015

Finally! Someone else is telling people not to use fingerprint scanning technology. Elliot Williams at HackADay has a post that explains why not to use fingerprints. If you have a choice to lock your mobile device with a password or a fingerprint, pick the strong password every time no matter how convenient that Touch ID sensor appears. Probably the strongest argument against using biometrics is that they can’t be changed if compromised. At least you can change a compromised password, which is a lot less painful than grafting a new finger on your hand or having an eyeball transplant.
