Be Afraid of Square – Be Very Afraid

October 27, 2015

I have never been a big fan of Square, the credit card processing gizmo that attaches to your phone. In the early days it was “caught” storing data in clear text and failing to encrypt. Square was also criticized by VeriFone for being easily hacked. The latest news is that Square was scammed out of $5.7 million by a woman selling bogus travel vouchers. Ouch. That’s a lot of vouchers. While Square is getting ready to position itself for a public offering, it had to disclose the loss. I’m sure glad I have never used Square. Now I don’t have to worry whether my credit card data was ever compromised.
