Outlook for Android is Released

April 29, 2015

Microsoft has released Outlook for the Android platform. It is a stand-alone product. If you are an Office 365 user, you already have access to the mobile Outlook app. I installed the app to my Samsung S5 just for grins to see how it worked. It was easy to configure and immediately was able to discover our Exchange server without having to define the server name, IP address or URL. The interface is clean, but I actually prefer the native Android e-mail app. The Outlook app groups conversations in a different way and shows a different colored block with the sender’s initials to help you visually see who sent the message. I guess it’s a matter of personal preference. The Outlook app does warn you if there is a blank subject line, which is a good thing. Call me stupid, but I can’t figure out how to change the notifications. Inbound e-mail gives you a notification that you’ve configured for text messages. I’ll stick with the native Android mail app for now.
