The Winner of the Most Insecure Core Internet Software for 2014 Isn’t Apple

April 2, 2015

That may surprise some, but Google’s Chrome browser was the winner for 2014 according to the Secunia Vulnerability Review 2015 report. I use Secunia’s PSI product on my home computer and really like how it monitors and notifies me when software patches are not current or software has gone out of support. As far as browsers go, Chrome was reported with 504 vulnerabilities, Internet Explorer with 289 and Firefox had 171 vulnerabilities. Overall there were 1035 flaws across all browsers to include Opera and Safari, but no data as to how many flaws were attributable to each of them. No matter what, it looks like you should set Firefox to be your default browser and fall back to IE (I hear the moan) if you have problems. Chrome has lost the race for 2014. Let’s hope that Spartan (part of Windows 10) is a better alternative to IE and can actually render a webpage.
