Is TrueCrypt Really Gone?

May 29, 2014

Yesterday, Twitter lit up like the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center during the Christmas holiday. All of a sudden the website for the Open Source project of TrueCrypt posted a warning that users should move over to Microsoft’s Bitlocker because TrueCrypt is insecure. Really? This warning comes after an independent audit released last month revealed that there were no backdoors or malicious code in TrueCrypt. The entire world is wondering what is really going on. As I’ve said many times…encryption is your friend. I guess we’ll have to wait to see what develops, but I am suspicious about the timing given that Brian Williams’ interview with Edward Snowden criticizing the NSA aired last night.
