Kingfisher Becomes Newest Ransomware Victim of LockBit 3.0

October 20, 2022

Claudia Glover, a staff reporter for Tech Monitor, recently published an article about a ransomware gang striking yet another victim.

The ransomware gang LockBit 3.0 added the UK insurance company, Kingfisher Insurance, to their ransomware list on the dark web. LockBit 3.0 has claimed that they were able to steal 1.4 terabytes of data from the UK company including the personal information of customers and employees.

The ransomware gang posted online that Kingfisher Insurance has until November 28th to respond to their undisclosed demands, or they will start publishing their 1.4 TB of data.

LockBit 3.0 has been the most active ransomware gang in the third quarter of 2022, committing 37% of ransomware attacks, increasing from 32% in the previous quarter. The gang is causing problems globally as they have added six more victims to their list just this month, in addition to Kingfisher Insurance.

It is always crucial to have best practices set in place in case of a ransomware attack. It’s important to maintain offline and encrypted backups of data, create and practice basic cyber incident response plans, and regularly conduct vulnerability assessments to make sure there are no cracks in your defenses.
