Law Enforcement Can Now Unlock Any iPhone, With Some Help
June 27, 2019
Israeli company Cellebrite has begun promoting a new tool that allows for the extraction of data from all models of the Apple iPhone, regardless of passcode protection.
A tweet published by Cellebrite introduces UFED Premium, “an exclusive solution for law enforcement to unlock and extract data from all iOS and high-end Android devices.” A webpage from Cellebrite documents the capabilities of the new tool.
The extraction is initiated by determining the passcode for all Apple devices and certain Samsung devices. UFED Premium claims to have support for all Apple devices running iOS 7 to iOS 12.3, along with support for certain Android devices including recent Samsung Galaxy models. The capabilities of the tool include gaining access to third-party application data, chat conversations, downloaded emails and attachments, as well as deleted information. Cellebrite plans to continue adding support for popular device manufacturers such as Motorola, Huawei, LG and Xiaomi.
Currently, the software is only available for use by law enforcement and is not available for public use.
