June 17, 2021
Sensei’s Sharon Nelson and John Simek will be speaking with Brigadier General Patrick Huston for the American Bar Association on June 22, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. – Is This the Way the World Ends? AI and Legal Ethics in a Divided World!
Legal ethics demand that lawyers become competent with the technology they use – and that they must supervise non-lawyer assistants, including AI.
The speakers include Sharon D. Nelson, an attorney who frequently speaks on legal ethics and AI, John W. Simek, a highly certified legal technologist, and Brigadier General Patrick Huston, the Assistant Judge Advocate General for Military Law and Operations in the Pentagon.
General Huston focuses on the legal and ethical development and use of artificial intelligence, autonomous weapons and cybersecurity.
The panel will discuss the following topics:
- A lawyer’s ethical duties with respect to AI (Rules 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 (supervision))
- What lawyers are seeing with respect to AI in creating deepfake audios and videos
- The role of human-machine teaming in developing ethical AI
- The National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act (effective January 1, 2021)
