A Blow to BYOD?

August 22, 2014

I’ve never been a fan of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and see it as Bring Your Own Disaster. One of the justifications used by those supporting BYOD is the perceived reduced expense if employees are allowed to use their own devices to access the company data. Well, the financial analysis has just shifted a little because of a recent California Court of Appeals ruling as reported by InfoWorld.

Does that mean that BYOD is dead? As much as I would love it to be so, the answer is no. Smart businesses will have to consider the cost of employee reimbursement when deciding if they should implement BYOD. It may tip the scale for some, but I would hope that the security risk would give them greater concern.
