Apple Still Can’t Lock Down iPhone

November 1, 2018

Hours after Apple released the iOS 12.1 update, security researchers found a new lockscreen bypass. According to the Verge, the exploit provides access to all contact information from a locked iPhone. It involves activating a FaceTime call and accessing the new group FaceTime feature to see contact information without a passcode. Apple has a long history of lockscreen problems going back to iOS 6.1 back in 2013. Does that mean you shouldn’t upgrade to iOS 12.1. Absolutely not. There are a lot of security fixes in the latest iOS version, just not one that protects contact access if the phone is locked.
