Are You Still Using Office 2007? Seriously?

November 9, 2017

Unbelievable! Spiceworks reports that about two thirds (68%) of businesses are still using Office 2007. Office 2007 reached End of Life on October 10, 2017. This means that Office 2007 users are no longer receiving any security updates, technical support or bug fixes. If you are an attorney, it's probably unethical to be using Office 2007 since you aren't protecting your client confidential information. The "bad guys" will be actively searching for vulnerabilities to attack Office 2007 users to get access to the data. You're in a similar boat if you're still running Windows XP.

Peter Tsai, senior technology analyst at Spiceworks said "Although they're aware of the security risks of running end of life software, many IT departments haven't had the budget, time, or resources required to implement new productivity suites and train end users accordingly." Really? The last I checked, Office 2010 is still in support as is Office 2013. A lot of businesses are still focused with on premise versions of Office. If you are still using Office 2007, stop. 17% of businesses are considering moving to the cloud with Office 365 by 2019. You should be considering it too.
