Clients Find Lawyers on the Internet and They Love Yelp!

July 14, 2014

The ABA Journal cited a survey by a legal software research firm, where 58% of those seeking lawyers start with a stop at business review site Yelp. This is a major change and bad news for the old Yellow Pages ads. In addition, three out of four consumers will use online resources at some point while seeking a lawyer according to a 2012 survey by Research Intelligence Group.  Our colleague and friend, Larry Bodine, even went so far as to state “Martindale-Hubbell, Avvo and Super Lawyers were much less trusted and used by people seeking an attorney.”

What does all of this mean? Lawyers should be marketing using services that today’s consumers trust and use on a frequent basis. Those high priced legal directory services are far less effective than other less expensive methods. Trusted reviews carry the most weight as consumers are willing to travel farther to access those with high review marks. Obviously, you need to be doing a “first class” job for your clients in order to get a good review to begin with. Technology, the Internet and great client reviews will help propel you past your competition.
