Cloud Security Still Concerns Professionals

March 23, 2015

I’ve written about cloud security in the past. Now there’s another report analyzing a survey of over 1,000 cybersecurity professionals concerned about cloud security and it’s a big number. Perhaps I should go back to being a cloud curmudgeon since 90% surveyed are “moderately concerned” or “very concerned” about the security of public clouds. Frankly, I’m surprised the number is that high, but I share the concern about cloud security. Unauthorized access is the biggest concern among the respondents. That’s not a surprise. Unauthorized access could be the hackers of the world or some of your own employees getting to data they have no business getting access to.

The traditional argument to move to cloud services, especially for small and medium business, is that the cloud security is better than their own internal implementations. Not according to this survey. I may have to go back to my original belief since 36 percent of the respondents believe that SaaS solutions such as Salesforce and Office 365 are less secure than on-premises solutions. Hmmmm…perhaps taking your own equipment and put it in a datacenter to create your own hybrid cloud is the best solution.
