Delete Alexa’s Recorded History

May 31, 2018

Alexa records what it hears when the wake word is spoken. Recently, news reports have indicated that Alexa sent private recordings to people that shouldn't have received them, which Amazon said is a mistake. It is fairly easy to delete your Alexa history.

  • Open the app, and tap the three-line (or hamburger) menu button in the top-left corner
  • Go to Settings, and then scroll down to find History

Just tap on the action within the History menu and you'll see the choice to delete history. I don't think there is a way to delete everything…so you'll have to select each item and then click delete. While deleting the Alexa history will help protect your privacy, it means that Alexa will go "stupid." The recorded history is what helps Alexa learn and be more effective. In other words, you can protect your privacy or give over information to make the product more enjoyable. It's just like our world of cybersecurity – convenience over security.
