End-To-End Encryption for Skype

August 22, 2018

Back in January, Skype announced the coming of a new end-to-end encryption for conversations. The Verge reported that it is now available for all users on Skype iOS, Android, Linux, Mac, and Windows Desktop. Skype has had encrypted communications for a long time, but it wasn't end-to-end. The new end-to-end encryption is secured using Signal Protocol by Open Whisper Systems, which is a good thing. The bad news is that end-to-end encryption is not enabled by default, which is the same as Apple's iMessage and Facebook's Messenger. The other limitation is that you can only participate in one private conversation per device at a time.
